What’s the Skinny?

“What’s the Skinny?” is my new series of guides to the latest, hottest fashion and lifestyle trends – to celebrate the launch of Starbucks Discoveries® Skinny Latte, a delicious, low-calorie, chilled coffee that you can find in both your local supermarket or Starbucks store. Made with the same Fairtrade Espresso Roast coffee that Starbucks use when making your latte in store, Starbucks Discoveries® Skinny Latte is perfect for the warmer summer months, and for when you can’t get to your local Starbucks store. I’m working with Starbucks to bring you these three summer trend guides, which will be posted on my blog over the next few weeks.

The three trends we’ve picked out this week are DIY Embellishment, Grunge Girl make-up and Floral Headbands.

I could spend hours looking through DIY pictures on Pinterest and Tumblr. There are so many talented bloggers out there with really cute and fun ideas on how to update your wardrobe with some easy do-it-yourself embellishment ideas. French Fashion Blogger Make My Lemonade has some lovely ideas, from gluing gems on tutus to gorgeous collars to glam up a plain t-shirt, you can check them out on her blog (also available in English!) at http://makemylemonade.com/diy-chemise-brodee/

An updated Grunge Girl make-up look was seen all over the catwalks for summer 2013. Clumpy mascara, smudgy kohl eyeliner and nude lips are all that’s needed to create it. I love this look for night time and it looks great teamed with killer high heels and slicked back hair.

But my favourite trend this week has to be Floral Headbands. Followers of my blog will know that I’m a big fan of these. They were a big trend to come out of Coachella earlier this year and they are the perfect accessory for the UK festival season – even if we don’t get the hot Coachella weather. Team them with cute summer dresses, ankle boots, natural make-up and tousled hair for a great summer look.

Check back for the next “What’s the Skinny?” Starbucks trend report in a few weeks.
